Personal Rebrand Logo

I've decided to rebrand myself because I've developed a strong interest in Constructivism and design that follows that aesthetic. I really like my old logo because although it's a good design, however it doesn't communicate my design practice.

I like to work digitally, use Constructivism and a lot of fonts like Futura and Universal. I want to incorporate that into my new branding.

Old Branding

This branding is very delicate and detailed and I just don't think that suits the way I work. This is a very formal looking design which I don't like. I want use my nick name, 'mol gog' because it's more fun and sounds good.

I looked at business cards with a pattern on one side and the information on the other. I wasn't sure how to write my contact details in the best order, so looked at these for help. Stepanova's patterns were influential to me. She was a constructivist and married to Rodchenko. She created lovely patterns and textiles using this design movement. I want to take inspiration from her designs.

I wanted to letter press my logo because I hadn't really used a lot of printing methods. However, when I was setting it up I realised letterpress doesn't demonstrate my design practice. So I feel, if used letter press for my self branding people would expect me to be very print based, when I'm not.

I went digital and used the same typeface as the letterpress but on my laptop.

I started with two colours that are opposite but work well together, I like to use opacity to create new colours and layers, I was experimenting with these ideas here.

I thought of using the letters as shapes as well, so this is why I drew round the two 'o's' in these two colours. From there I looked at Stepanvoa's work and looked at the shapes used. There's a lot of circles and lines which is why I introduced it to my logo.

I've experimented with a lot of colour once I was happy with the two circle and line formation. I think this could create a good pattern without the letters.

This is the final logo. It uses three colours, which is quite a lot but it allows me to show people I like to work with colour.

I created some patterns using the shapes from behind the letters on my logo. I really like the bottom one, just using the double o. This would work well on my business card.
